Trekking
Paanch Pokhari Trek
Five sacred lakes at 4,100 m, four hours from Kathmandu.
About this journey
Paanch Pokhari means five ponds — a cluster of glacial lakes at around 4,100 m below the Jugal Himal, and one of the highest wetlands in the world. Hindus walk up for the Janai Purnima festival in August. The rest of the year it is close to empty, which is remarkable for a trek that starts a half-day's drive from the capital. Teahouses are basic and intermittent; this is a trek that rewards being prepared.
Highlights
