About Everest Region
Everest is 8,849 m, a figure Nepal and China agreed jointly in 2020. The region below it — Sagarmatha National Park, UNESCO-listed since 1979 — is Sherpa country, reached by the short flight into Lukla and then on foot through Namche Bazaar to Everest Base Camp at 5,364 m. Two weeks is the realistic minimum. For everyone with less time, the Kathmandu mountain flight puts the same peaks outside the window for an hour.
