Everest Base Camp Trek
Lukla to 5,364 m, through Sherpa country.
About this journey
Everest is 8,849 m, a figure Nepal and China agreed jointly in 2020. The walk to its base camp starts with the short flight into Lukla and climbs through Namche Bazaar, Tengboche monastery and Dingboche to the moraine at 5,364 m, with the viewpoint at Kala Patthar a further 181 m above. Two weeks is the realistic minimum because two of those days are spent not walking — acclimatisation is what makes the difference between finishing and turning back.
Highlights
- Everest Base Camp at 5,364 m and the Khumbu icefall
- Sunrise from Kala Patthar, 5,545 m
- Tengboche monastery with Ama Dablam behind it
- Namche Bazaar, the Khumbu's trading centre
- Sagarmatha National Park, UNESCO-listed since 1979
