About Chitwan
Chitwan National Park was Nepal's first, gazetted in 1973 and UNESCO-listed in 1984, and it protects around 950 square kilometres of sal forest, grassland and river floodplain in the Terai. It holds one of the world's larger populations of greater one-horned rhinoceros, along with Bengal tigers, gharial crocodiles and more than five hundred bird species. Sauraha, on the Rapti river, is where almost everyone stays.
