Annapurna Base Camp Trek, Nepal

Trekking

Annapurna Base Camp Trek

Into the Sanctuary, ringed by peaks on every side.

About this journey

The Annapurna Sanctuary is a glacial amphitheatre at 4,130 m enclosed by a ring of summits — Annapurna I at 8,091 m, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Gangapurna and Machhapuchhre. The only way in is the narrow Modi Khola gorge. Standing at base camp you are surrounded by mountains through very nearly 360 degrees, which no other trek in Nepal quite does. Seven days at a push from Pokhara, more comfortably ten to twelve with an acclimatisation day.

Highlights

  • The 360-degree ring of peaks from base camp
  • Machhapuchhre Base Camp at 3,700 m
  • The Modi Khola gorge and its bamboo forest
  • Hot springs at Jhinu Danda on the way down
  • Rhododendron bloom through April above Chhomrong
