Mustang
Ochre cliffs and wind-carved valleys behind the Himalaya.
About Mustang
North of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri walls the land turns dry. Mustang is Nepal's trans-Himalayan district — eroded red and ochre cliffs, whitewashed Tibetan-influenced villages, and a wind that comes up the Kali Gandaki like clockwork every afternoon. Lower Mustang, through Jomsom, Marpha and Kagbeni, is open to anyone. Upper Mustang beyond Kagbeni is a restricted area and needs a special permit arranged in advance.
