Destination
Muktinath
A temple at 3,760 m, sacred to Hindus and Buddhists alike.
About Muktinath
Muktinath stands above the village of Ranipauwa in Mustang, on the far side of the Annapurna massif where the monsoon does not reach. Pilgrims come for the 108 stone water spouts behind the temple and for the natural gas flame burning above the spring at Jwala Mai. Hindus know it as Mukti Kshetra, a place of liberation; Buddhists as Chumig Gyatsa, the hundred waters. Reaching it means crossing the Kali Gandaki gorge, the deepest in the world.
