Annapurna
The range that rises straight out of Pokhara's skyline.
About Annapurna
Annapurna I is 8,091 m and was the first eight-thousander ever climbed, in 1950. Machhapuchhre, the fishtail peak that dominates the view from Pokhara, is 6,993 m and has never been summited — climbing it is prohibited. The walking below them ranges from a four-day loop to Poon Hill to the three-week Annapurna Circuit over the Thorong La at 5,416 m. All of it needs an ACAP permit, and all of it starts within a couple of hours of Pokhara.
