Mohare Danda Trek
The community-owned alternative to Poon Hill.
About this journey
Mohare Danda is a 3,300 m ridge west of Poon Hill with the same Dhaulagiri and Annapurna panorama and a fraction of the people. What makes it unusual is the ownership: the lodges along the route are run by the villages themselves, with profits going back into local schools and clinics. It is an easy-to-moderate teahouse walk through terraced farmland and rhododendron forest, and it can be linked with Khopra Danda for a longer route.
Highlights
- Sunrise over Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South and Machhapuchhre
- Community-owned eco-lodges, village-run throughout
- Rhododendron forest above Danda Kharka in April
- Terraced Magar farmland on the lower trail
- Optional extension to Khopra Danda
